Emma, My Dear - Love Theme

The Bolland Project feat. Colin Blunstone

Emma, My Dear is afkomstig van het conceptalbum Darwin - The Evolution, dat werd uitgebracht onder de naam The Bolland Project. Die naam is een verwijzing naar The Alan Parsons Project die in de jaren 70 en 80 met gelijkaardige conceptalbums grote successen kende.

Aan het album werkten verschillende vocalisten mee: Colin Bunstone (van The Zombies), Falco, Suzi Quatro, Ian Gillan (van Deep Purple), Peter Hofmann en Barclay James Harvest. Colin Blunstone, de zanger op de single Emma, My Dear, had eerder al aan projecten van Alan Parsons meegewerkt en is onder andere te horen op de hitsingle Old And Wise van het album Eye In The Sky uit 1982.

Emma, My Dear is een ode aan Emma Darwin (1808-1896), de echtgenote van de Britse evolutiebioloog Charles Darwin (1809-1882). Zij waren van 1939 tot aan Charles' dood getrouwd. Het nummer is het liefdesthema van het album en wordt gezongen vanuit het standpunt van Charles Darwin.

Wist je dat? In 1964 vormde Colin samen met toetsenist Rod Argent, gitarist Paul Atkinson, bassist Chris White en drummer Hugh Grundy de band The Zombies. De bekendste hits waren "She's Not There", "Tell Her No", "Summertime" en "Time of the Season". Na het uiteenvallen van de band in 1968 begon Colin aan zijn solocarrière. Onder het pseudoniem Neil McArthur nam hij nogmaals de Zombies-hit "She's Not There" op, daarna gebruikte hij zijn eigen naam. Begin jaren zeventig had Colin meerdere solo hits. Vanaf 1990 zijn The Zombies weer regelmatig bij elkaar en hebben ze ook cd's met nieuw materiaal opgenomen.
