Gesaffelstein is geboren als Mike Lévy en al sinds 2008 actief als dj. Ondanks zijn voorliefde voor techno laat hij met zijn remixen, die hij voor onder meer Depeche Mode, Duck Sauce en Lana del Rey maakt, zien dat hij enorm divers werk kan afleveren.

Voor het Yeezus-album van Kanye West produceert hij twee tracks en in 2013 verschijnt zijn eerste album Aleph. In 2019 verschijnt zijn tweede studioalbum, Hyperion, bij Columbia Records. Op dat album staat ook Lost In The Fire, een samenwerking met de Canadese zanger The Weeknd. Eerder al werkte hij met hem samen als producer van de ep My Dear Melancholy.
