Het begon allemaal in 1967 toen Hans Bouwens, alias George Baker, solliciteerde als zanger bij de band Soul Invention. Toen de band in 1969 bij het toenmalige platenlabel Negram een geslaagde auditie deed, werden er 3 nummers van hem opgenomen en één ervan was Little Green Bag. Ook werd in dat jaar de naam van de band veranderd in The George Baker Selection.

Het nummer werd een wereldhit en bereikte de 9e plaats in de Top 40 en de 5e plaats in de US Billboard Top 100 en hierna volgden meerdere Hits zoals Dear Ann, Tonight, I’m on my Way, Baby Blue. Het absolute hoogtepunt was in 1975 verschenen single Una Paloma Blanca, die met een verkoop van meer dan 9 miljoen exemplaren een absolute wereldhit werd en ook veel werd gecoverd.
Na al die jaren door de wereld te hebben getoerd en meer dan 25 miljoen platen te hebben verkocht viel het doek in 1978 voor de groep en ging Hans Bouwens verder als solo artiest en scoorde hij ook een aantal hits zoals met Sing for the day en Rosita..

In 1985 werd de nieuwe George Baker Selection geformeerd en weer scoorde de groep een aantal hits zoals met Santa Lucia by night, maar het grote succes uit de jaren zeventig bleef achterwege.

George baker treedt nog steeds op.
