Di-rect bestaat uit Jamie Westland, Frans "Spike" van Zoest, Bas van Wageningen, Marcel Veenendaal en Vince van Reeken. De groep wordt in 1999 opgericht en in twee jaar tijd is de eerste Top 40-hit met Just The Way I Do een feit. Het nummer is afkomstig van het album Discover, waarop ook Kane en Daniël Lohues te horen zijn.

She (#2) wordt in 2003 de eerste top 3-hit, wat in 2007 ook met A Good Thing lukt.

In 2009 besluit Tim Akkerman de groep te verlaten. Na een tv-zoektocht wordt Marcel Veenendaal het vijfde lid van de groep. Eind 2011 is Young Ones de twintigste hit in de Top 40 van de groep, afkomstig van Time Will Heal Our Senses, het tweede album met Veenendaal in de gelederen.

Na twee jaar keren ze eind 2013 weer terug in de hitlijst met Where We Belong (samen met Fedde Le Grand). De band is op dat moment al bezig met de voorbereidingen van het nieuwe album, Daydreams In A Blackout. Invincible krijgt een notering in de Tipparade. Ook Paper Plane wordt in het voorjaar van 2014 populair.

In 2015 viert de band het 15-jarige bestaan op 29 augustus met een concert in het Haagse Westbroekpark. In de zomer verschijnen de singles Move On en Here And Now. Op 16 september 2016 brengt de band de EP Fired Up uit, die alleen op vinyl verschijnt. Naast de titeltrack wordt ook One More Kiss uitgebracht als single. In april 2017 brengt de band het nummer Crazy Madonna uit. De track wordt gelanceerd met een videoclip waarin vrouwelijke bodybuilders hun schoonheid laten zien.

In 2019, het jaar dat de band het 20-jarige jubileum viert, verschijnt de single Devil Don't Care. In juni is Be Strong de volgende track van Di-rect.
