Het nummer, dat in 1984 werd uitgebracht op het album Born In The U.S.A., werd aanvankelijk slechts een klein succes. Een jaar later werd het nog een keer uitgebracht. Deze keer met een videoclip die niet alleen Bruce een grote hit opleverde, maar ook de grote doorbraak was voor Courteney Cox.
De clip is opgenomen tijdens een show van de Born in the U.S.A Tour. Courteney speelde een fan die tijdens dit nummer het podium wordt opgetrokken en samen met Bruce danst.
Bruce won er zijn eerste Grammy Award mee en een MTV Video Music Award. Courteney speelde later o.a. in de bekende tv-serie Family Ties en Friends.
Het nummer heeft 19 weken in de Top 40 gestaan met als hoogste notering een nummer 1.
