Doordat Bruce aan het rommelen was met een Johnny Cash-riffje, ontstond het idee voor I’m On Fire.
Voor het eerst verschijnt Bruce zelf in een videoclip. Hij speelt een automonteur die zijn ogen niet van een sjieke dame af kan houden als zij haar auto ter reparatie langsbrengt. De videoclip won er een MTV Video Music Award mee.
Er zijn meerdere covers gemaakt van het nummer. De meest bekende is die van Johnny Cash uit 2000.
