Vanaf zijn lagere school doet Nathan Sykes al mee aan verschillende talentenjachten en als 11-jarige neemt hij, in 2004, mee aan het Britse Juniorsongfestival waar hij met Born To Dance derde wordt.

In 2009 doet hij auditie voor de groep The Wanted, waar hij wordt uitgekozen als één van de vijf leden. In 2011 scoort die band in ons land met Glad You Came een Top 40-hit en in 2013 komt er met Walks Like Rihanna een bescheiden vervolg. Begin 2014 kondigt de groep een adempauze aan zodat de leden ook aan hun solo-activiteiten kunnen werken. Sykes had inmiddels al voorzichtig wat gedaan met de release van Almost Is Never Enough, dat hij samen met Ariana Grande opnam.

Kiss Me Quick is in de zomer van 2015 zijn debuutsingle. Later verscheen ook Over And Over Again, dat in zijn thuisland zijn eerste top 10-hit werd met een achtste plaats als beste prestatie.

In 2016 gaat Sykes mee op wereldtournee met Little Mix en werkt hij opnieuw samen met Ariana Grande. De twee vermaken Over And Over Again nu tot een duet.
