MØ is de artiestennaam van Karen Marie Ørsted en betekent in het Deens ‘maagd’. De zangeres en tekstschrijver timmert sinds 2012 aan de weg. Binnen een jaar verschijnt haar eerste single, Glass.

In 2014 wordt ze meervoudig onderscheiden op de jaarlijkse Danish Music Awards, onder meer als ‘meest succesvolle doorbraak’. Eerder dat jaar was haar debuutalbum No Mythologies To Follow verschenen. Daarnaast is de zangeres te horen op Beg For It (Iggy Azalea) en Lean On (de nummer 1-hit van Major Lazer & DJ Snake). Die laatste wordt haar debuut in de Top 40. En niet zo maar één, want als de track 28 weken in de Top 40 staat komt het bij de tien grootste Top 40-hits aller tijden.

Na haar succes met Major Lazer brengt ze de singles Kamikaze en Final Song uit. Terwijl Final Song in de zomer van 2016 in de Top 40 staat dient zich direct een volgende hit aan in de samenwerking met (opnieuw) Major Lazer en Justin Bieber; Cold Water. Daarmee komt ze opnieuw op nummer 1. Met onder meer Bloodpop en Charli XCX maakt ze Drum, dat begin oktober verschijnt maar niet uitgroeit tot een succes. Met het Britse Snakehips maakt ze later de track Don't Leave.

In november 2017 verschijnt Get It Right, opnieuw een samenwerking met Diplo.
