Als Meghan Trainor 18 jaar is, maakt ze een eigen eerste album, I’ll Sing With You, waarvoor ze alle nummers zelf schrijft. Samen met Kevin Kadish, producent voor onder meer Jason Mraz en Stacie Orrico, schrijft ze in 2014 het nummer All About That Bass, dat in februari verschijnt. In de Verenigde Staten bereikt ze de eerste plaats van de Billboard Hot 100, waar ze in Nederland vier weken op nummer 3 komt.

Eind 2014 wordt Lips Are Movin uitgeroepen tot Alarmschijf en is haar tweede Top 40-hit een feit. Het is de volgende track van haar inmiddels derde studioalbum Title, dat in 2015 verschijnt. Dat jaar heeft ze meerdere keren last van een bloeding op haar stembanden en moet ze het restant van haar tournee vanwege een operatie annuleren. Tijdens de tournee stond Charlie Puth in het voorprogramma en met hem maakt ze het nummer Marvin Gaye. In november is ze, samen met Ariana Grande, ook te horen op Boys Like You van Who Is Fancy.

Like I'm Gonna Lose You, haar samenwerking met John Legend, wordt in januari 2016 haar vierde Top 40-notering. Een slordig jaar na de release van haar debuutalbum verschijnt op 13 mei haar tweede, Thank You. Van dat album wordt No als voorloper uitgebracht, waarmee ze haar vijfde Top 40-hit scoort. Later verschijnt de track No Excuses en maakt ze, samen met CNCO en Sean Paul, het nummer Hey DJ.

In januari van 2019 verschijnt Treat Myself, haar derde studioalbum. Een jaar later brengt ze het album A Very Trainor Christmas uit. Beide albums scoren matig. Op 21 oktober 2022 lanceert ze haar vijfde studioalbum Takin' It Back. Ze brengt daarbij direct de eerste single van het album uit genaamd Made You Look. De opvolger Mother verschijnt in maart 2023.
