De groep rond Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock en Jade Thirlwall, ontstaat tijdens de Britse talentenjacht X-Factor. De dames winnen het programma met een cover van de single van Damien Rice, Cannonball. Die single, maar ook het nummer Wings, bereikt de eerste plaats van de Britse hitlijst.

In 2012 verschijnt hun debuutalbum DNA. Van dat album bereikt de samenwerking met Missy Elliott, How Ya Doin’? in 2013 de Tipparade. Eind 2013 verschijnt het tweede studioalbum van Little Mix, Salute, waarvan Little Me de tweede notering in de Tipparade wordt.

Black Magic wordt in 2015 hun derde Britse nummer 1. Shout Out To My Ex, dat in oktober verschijnt als voorloper van hun album Glory Days, komt daar nieuw binnen op nummer 1. In ons land komt het nummer niet verder dan plaats 15. Touch blijft in het voorjaar van 2017 steken in de Tipparade. In augustus maken ze, samen met de Amerikaanse boyband CNCO, een remix van Reggaetón Lento. Met het Amerikaanse duo Cheat Codes leveren ze in de zomer van 2018 de track Only You af. Op 16 november 2018 verschijnt het vijfde studioalbum van de groep (LM5) met daarop ook Woman Like Me, hun samenwerking met Nicki Minaj. Dat nummer was oorspronkelijk bedoeld voor het album van Jess Glynne en ook Ed Sheeran schreef mee aan de track.

In 2019 brengen ze, van het album LM5, de track Think About Us (met Ty Dolla $ign) uit waarna in juni Bounce Back de volgende single van de groep is. Op 25 september staat Little Mix met de LM5 Tour in de Ziggo Dome. In maart van 2020 wordt Break Up Song de volgende single. De lyric-video bij dat nummer is gemaakt door een fan van de groep. Vier maanden later maken ze met Holiday een nieuwe track wereldkundig voordat ze met dj en producer Nathan Dawe de track No Time For Tears afleveren. Jesy Nelson besluit in december 2020 uit de meiden groep te stappen vanwege haar mentale gezondheid.
In mei 2021 dropt het trio samen met David Guetta en Galantis de track Heartbreak Anthem. In september gaat ze de samenwerking aan met Anne-Marie en lanceren ze samen de track Kiss My (Uh-Oh).
