Linkin Park is een Amerikaanse rockband die in 1996 wordt opgericht in Californië. Drie schoolvrienden (Brad Delson, Rob Bourdon en Mike Shinoda) noemen zichzelf eerst Xero en later Hybrid Theory. In 2000, als de band uit meer leden bestaat en als Linkin Park door het leven gaat, volgt de doorbraak. Het debuutalbum Hybrid Theory haalt in veel landen de platina status.

In Nederland wordt Linkin Park in 2000 voor het eerst in de Tipparade gesignaleerd met One Step Closer. De eerste hit is echter pas eind 2001 een feit als In The End de Top 40 binnenkomt. De single piekt uiteindelijk op 5 en blijft de grootste hit van de band. Numb/Encore (met Jay-Z) piekt in 2014 ook op 5, maar staat korter genoteerd en verzamelt mede daardoor minder punten.

Op 20 juli 2017 komt het nieuws dat leadzanger Chester Bennington, in 1999 bij de groep gekomen, zelfmoord heeft gepleegd door zich op te hangen in zijn huis. Aan het drama gingen jarenlange drank- en drugsproblemen vooraf. Opvallend is dat Bennington bevriend was met Chris Cornell, de leadzanger van Soundgarden, die in mei 2017 zichzelf eveneens van het leven beroofde. De dag waarop Bennington uit het leven stapte was Cornells geboortedag.
