In 2009 maakt de wereld kennis met Jason Joel Desrouleaux als Whatcha Say, dat in de Nederlandse Top 40 de twaalfde plaats bereikt, zijn debuut wordt.
Er volgen nog een aantal singles, maar pas in 2013 is Talk Dirty, samen met 2 Chainz, zijn negende hitnotering er een die de top 5 weet te bereiken. De opvolger, Trumpets, komt tot de zesde plaats en wordt zijn grootste hit in ons land.
Van het derde studioalbum van Derulo, Tattoos, krijgt Stupid Love een notering in de Tipparade.
Tattoos krijgt in 2014 een heruitgave met een andere titel; Talk Dirty. Op dat album staan vijf tracks die niet op Tattoos staan, waaronder Wiggle (samen met Snoop Dogg) dat begin juni de Top 40 weet te bereiken.
Derulo wordt jurylid in het Amerikaanse tv-programma So You Think You Can Dance en werkt ondertussen aan zijn vierde studioalbum, Everything is 4. Als voorloper verschijnt in maart de single Want To Want Me dat Alarmschijf wordt en eind maart in de Top 40 komt. Ook is hij te horen op de nieuwste track van Hardwell, Follow Me. Begin augustus van 2015 wordt Cheyenne door Radio 538 uitgeroepen tot Alarmschijf. Daarna worden ook Try Me (met Jennifer Lopez en Matoma) en Get Ugly als single onder de aandacht gebracht.
In het voorjaar van 2016 laat Derulo het album Everything Is 4 achter zich als If It Ain't Love zijn nieuwe single wordt. Vrij snel daarna verschijnt met Platinum Hits de verzakelaar van DeRulo. Daarop staat met Kiss The Sky één nieuwe track, zijn 15e Top 40-hit.
Na een adempauze van een half jaar keert Derulo in maart 2017 terug met Swalla, een samenwerking met Nicki Minaj en Ty Dolla $ign. In september verschijnt de track If I'm Lucky die met Tip Toe al snel een opvolger krijgt. In de zomer van 2018 is Goodbye een bewerking van Time To Say Goodbye (Con Te Partiro) met de hulp van David Guetta, Nicki Minaj en Willy William. In 2020 maakt hij van de TikTok-track Laxed - Siren Beat een vocale versie als Savage Love. Die track wordt niet veel later zijn eerste nummer 1-hit. Ook zijn bijdrage aan Coño, de eerdere track van Jhorrmountain en Puri, wordt in de zomer een succes. Derulo heeft de smaak van Tiktok te pakken; in een razend tempo dropt hij zijn nummers. In juli is Take You Dancing de volgende van de Amerikaanse zanger en dat wordt later zijn zevende top 10-hit. In november verschijnt er met Love Not War - The Tampa Beat een nieuwe single van Derulo.
