Als Ilse DeLange in 1998 deel uitmaakt van de groep Cash On Delivery komt ze in Nashville terecht. Samen met producer Barry Beckett maakt ze daar het album World Of Hurt, dat later meervoudig platina zou worden. Van het album wordt nog datzelfde jaar I’m Not So Tough haar eerste hit in de Top 40. De single, maar ook latere singles Livin’ On Love en Shine blijven in het onderste kwart van de hitlijst steken. Als de Almelose in 2003 samenwerkt met Kane op de single Before You Let Me Go staat ze voor het eerst in de top 4.

In 2008 verschijnt haar zevende studioalbum, Incredible. Vervolgens regent het hits voor de zangeres. Met So Incredible (#6), Miracle (#1) en Puzzle Me (#5) scoort Ilse drie top 10-hits op rij. Van het album Next To Me (2010), dat met acht nummers feitelijk een mini-album is, slaagt daar alleen de titeltrack in.

In 2013 is De Lange één van de vier coaches in de tv-talentenjacht The Voice Of Holland. De zangeres brengt een Greatest Hits-album uit waarop ook vier nieuwe nummers staan. Blue Bittersweet is voor het eerst in drie jaar weer een single die de top 10 bereikt. Voor DeLange is het haar 21e hit in de Top 40. In 2014 vertegenwoordigt ze, samen met Waylon, als The Common Linnets ons land op het Eurovisiesongfestival met Calm After The Storm. Ondertussen is ze de drijvende kracht achter een nieuw festival in Enschede, Tuckerville. Na de eerste editie in 2014 keert dat festival in 2017 weer terug.

In 2018 verschijnt er met OK voor het eerst in vijf jaar tijd, waarin ze onder meer actief was met The Common Linnets, weer solomateriaal van DeLange. In augustus verschijnt er een nieuw (en titelloos) album waarvan ook de tracks Lay Your Weapons Down en Half The Love afkomstig zijn. Gravel & Dust is de titel van het album dat Ilse in september 2019 uitbrengt en is geproduceerd door T-Bone Burnett. Op het album staan tien nummers waarbij de titeltrack in juni als voorloper wordt uitgebracht.

In het voorjaar van 2020 maakt Ilse de overstap naar bredere popmuziek. De single Changes wordt de titelsong van de Duitse versie van Boer Zoekt Vrouw. In augustus wordt het uptempo Way Back Home de volgende single.
