Billie Eilish O’Connell brengt in het najaar van 2015 haar eerste track uit, Ocean Eyes. Haar broer, Finneas O’Connell, schreef het nummer voor zijn band The Slightlys, maar gaf het uiteindelijk aan Billie. Finneas zou uiteindelijk blijven schrijven en produceren voor zijn zus.

In 2017 is het nummer Bored te horen in de serie 13 Reasons Why en niet veel later verschijnt haar eerste ep, Don’t Smile At Me. Met Khalid levert ze via Lovely opnieuw een nummer voor die serie. Van haar debuutalbum When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go, dat op 29 maart 2019 verschijnt, worden When The Party’s Over en Bury A Friend Top 40-hits. Kort na de release van het album wordt ook het meer dansbare Bad Guy populair en later haar eerste top 10-hit. Ook verschijnt er een versie van dat nummer waarop Justin Bieber te horen is. Ondertussen is ze te zien op het podium van Lowlands.

Begin september verschijnt er een video bij de volgende track van haar album, All The Good Girls Go To Hell. In november verschijnt er, voor het eerst in 8 maanden tijd, weer nieuwe muziek van Eilish met de track Everything I Wanted. In februari van 2020 verschijnt No Time To Die, de titelsong die ze maakte voor de gelijknamige 25e Bond-film. Vanwege de corona-pandemie worden bioscoopvoorstellingen uitgesteld. Met My Future en Therefore I Am volgen er daarna weer eigen nummers van Eilish.

In januari van 2021 brengt Billie Eilish een verrassende samenwerking met Rosalía, Lo Vas A Olvidar. De track is afkomstig uit de HBO-serie Euphoria.

"I think, therefore I am" (zie de songtekst) is de Engelse vertaling van de filosofische stelling "Cogito ergo sum" (Latijn voor 'Ik denk, dus ik ben') van René Descartes; zijn bewering werd een belangrijk element van de westerse filosofie. Descartes kwam tot zijn stelling in het werk Principia Philosophiae uit 1644.
