Het naar haarzelf vernoemde album is Beyoncé's eerste ‘visuele’ album. De 17 video clips die op dvd, naast de cd met 14 songs, in de set te vinden zijn, zijn over de hele wereld opgenomen : van Houston tot New York tot Parijs en van Sydney tot Rio de Janeiro. Waarom Beyoncé voor een visueel album gekozen heeft legt ze zelf uit: "I see music, it's more than just what I hear. When I'm connected to something, I immediately see a visual or a series of images that are tied to a feeling or an emotion, a memory from my childhood, thoughts about life, my dreams or my fantasies. And they're all connected to music.”
