Zangeres, actrice, producente, schrijfster, componiste, ontwerpster, fotografe en filmregisseuse Barbra Joan Streisand werd geboren op 24 april 1942 in Brooklyn, New York.
In 1962 komt ze met haar debuutalbum Barbra Streisand Album, waarmee ze gelijk twee Grammy’s won.
Met de single People, afkomstig uit de musical Funny Girl, kwam ze in 1965 voor het eerst in aanraking met de Nederlandse Top 40.
In de jaren 60 was ze veel te zien en te horen in diverse musicals, trad ze op in televisieshows en was ze voor het eerst ook te zien op het grote witte doek met de verfilming van de musical Funny Girl.
De single Evergreen is de titelsong van de film A Star Is Born uit 1976. Ze componeert en zingt het nummer en ontvangt daar als eerste vrouwelijke componiste een Academy Award voor.
In 1980 scoorde ze een wereldhit met de single Woman In Love. Het was in Nederland de bestverkochte single van 1980. De single is afkomstig van het album Guilty. Daar staat ook de gelijknamige single op, wat een duet is met Barry Gibb.
In 1997 scoort ze een hit met de single Tell Him wat een duet is met Céline Dion.
In 2007 maakte ze in haar, op dat moment al meer dan 40-jarige carrière, voor het eerst een Europese tour.
De hitsingle van de dj’s Duck Sauce werd in 2010 naar haar vernoemd.
In 2013 was ze voor het eerst in Nederland om een aantal optredens te geven.
Het album Partners, wat in 2014 verscheen, kwam binnen op de eerste plaats in de Billboard 200 Chart. Ze is daarmee de eerste artiest die zes decennia achtereen met minstens één album op nummer 1 heeft gestaan.
Haar staat van dienst is enorm. Zo heeft zij vele prijzen in ontvangst mogen nemen. Een Tony Award, meerdere Golden Globes, Oscars, Emmy’s en Grammy’s. Ook kreeg zij in 2015 uit handen van President Barack Obama The Presidential Medal Of Freedom uitgereikt.
