In 1978 is de soulvolle verfilming van de Broadway-musical The Wizard Of Oz een enorm succes. Diana Ross en Michael Jackson spelen de hoofdrollen. The Wizard Of Oz vertelt het verhaal van Dorothy, het meisje dat wegloopt met haar hond en in een tornado belandt, die haar wegvoert naar het magische land Oz. Het is oorspronkelijk een roman van L. Frank Baum, die ook enkele vervolgen schreef. Het originele boek werd in 1900 uitgegeven.
