De titel "Strange Machines" is aangedragen door gitarist René Rutten, fan van tijdreisfilms zoals The Time Machine, een verfilming van het boek van H. G. Wells. Zangeres Anneke (van Giersbergen) werd hierdoor geïnspireerd om de tekst te schrijven.
