Snakehips is het duo van Oliver Lee en James Carter. Lee speelde eerst covers in een bandje en kwam in 2012 in contact met Carter in Hong Kong. In een bar raakten ze in gesprek over hun gemeenschappelijke muzikale interesses. Ze besloten opnieuw af te spreken, maar tot een ontmoeting kwam het niet. Als de twee elkaar toevallig weer ontmoeten op een vlucht naar Londen ontstaat het project Snakehips.
In de zomer van 2014 maken ze, met de vocalen van Sinead Harnett, hun eerste single Days With You. Een half jaar later is Forever Pt. II hun eerste EP. Met All My Friends, waarop ook Tinashe en Chance The Rapper te horen zijn, scoren ze hun eerste hit in ons land. In 2016 maken ze, samen met Zayn, de track Cruel die in de Tipparade blijft steken. Dat gebeurt later ook met de samenwerking met Mø, Don't Leave.
In de zomer van 2017 maakt het duo met Anne-Marie en Joey Bada$$ de track Either Way.
