Sly & The Family Stone was een Amerikaanse funk-, soul- en rockband uit San Francisco. Deze was actief tussen 1966 en 1975. De voorman van de band was zanger, componist, platenproducer en multi-instrumentalist Sly Stone, en de band bevatte daarnaast enkele familieleden en vrienden van Sly Stone. Sly & The Family Stone staat bekend als de eerste grote Amerikaanse rockband met een multiculturele bezetting: de band bestond namelijk uit Afro-Amerikanen, blanken, zowel mannen als vrouwen.



De band speelde een belangrijke rol in de ontwikkeling van de Amerikaanse popmuziek in het algemeen en speelde soul, funk, psychedelische muziek en later ook hiphop en r&b in het bijzonder.

Sly Stone, geboren als Sylvester Stewart, was de frontman van de band.

De band had slechts één Top 40-hit: Family Affair. Andere nummers, zoals Dance To The Music, Everyday People, Stand! en Thank You kwamen niet verder dan de Tipparade.

Op 15 juli 2007 trad Sly met zijn band op tijdens het North Sea Jazz Festival.
