Sean Paul Henriques is geboren in Kingston, Jamaica. In 2003 scoort Paul met Gimme The Light zijn eerste hit in de Top 40. Met Get Busy, dat in 2003 zijn derde hit is, staat hij één week bovenaan de Top 40. Zijn grootste hit scoort hij in 2011 als Got 2 Love You (met Alexis Jordan) de zesde plaats bereikt.

In 2014 is de rapper weer nadrukkelijk te horen op de nieuwe single van Enrique Iglesias, Bailando. Het zomerse nummer wordt Alarmschijf.

Met Sia maakt hij eind 2015 een remix van Cheap Thrills, dat origineel op het album van de Australische zangeres terecht kwam. Cheap Thrills was origineel geschreven als nummer voor Rihanna, die het nummer teruggaf. Ook werkt hij mee aan Make My Love Go van Jay Sean, die Close To You van Maxi Priest (1990) gebruikte voor zijn nieuwste single. Radio 538 roept de track uit tot Alarmschijf. Cheap Thrills als Make My Love Go staan tegelijk in de lijst en brengen zijn aantal hits op 14. Ondertussen wordt in de zomer ook zijn samenwerking met het Spaanse duo, Sak Noel en Salvi, uitgeroepen tot Dance Smash bij Radio 538.

In oktober is Sean Paul terug te vinden op Rockabye van Clean Bandit, waaraan ook Anne-Marie meewerkt. Vrij snel daarna verschijnt een eigen track van Paul met No Lie, een samenwerking met Dua Lipa die door Radio 538 wordt uitgeroepen tot Alarmschijf. Die track wordt, 13 jaar na zijn eerste, een nummer 1-hit in de Top 40. Begin februari van 2018 levert hij met Becky G en David Guetta de track Mad Love af. Aan het einde van het jaar is hij te horen op Hey DJ, een samenwerking met Meghan Trainor en CNCO.

Eind augustus 2019 brengt Paul met When It Comes To You weer een nieuwe single.
