Sandra Ann Lauer geboren op 18 mei 1962 te Saarbrücken in Duitsland. Voordat ze halverwege de 80-er jaren bekend werd in Europa als Sandra had ze in Japan al tientallen miljoenen fans als onderdeel van de meidengroep Arabesque. Gekleed in strakke T-shirts en korte rokjes werden daar 16 albums uitgebracht en hadden ze circa 30 hitnoteringen.
In Europa werd ze bekend met hitnoteringen als “Maria Magdalena”en “In the Heat of the Night”. Haar toenmalige echtgenoot (getrouwd in 1988) Michael Crétu was zowel één van har songwriters als haar producer. In 1995 beviel ze van een tweeling om vervolgens in 2004 te scheiden. In 2007 trad ze opnieuw in het huwelijk. Ditmaal met een Duitse zakenman.
