Roxette is een Zweeds duo dat in de jaren 80 wordt opgericht. In 1986 verschijnt hun eerste album Pearls Of Passion, maar in Nederland blijft het onopgemerkt. In 1989 is het wel raak met het album Look Sharp en de leadsingle The Look schopt het tot nummer 2 in de Nederlandse Top 40. Vele hits volgen, zoals Listen To Your Heart, It Must Have Been Love en Dangerous. In 1991 scoort het tweetal een nummer 1-hit in de Nederlandse Top 40 met de single Joyride, afkomstig van het gelijknamige album.

In 2002 werd bij zangeres Marie Fredriksson een kwaadaardige hersentumor vastgesteld. Na een succesvolle operatie en een zwaar herstel werd ze in 2005 kankervrij verklaard. In 2009 trad ze voor het eerst weer samen op met Per Gessle en een jaar later volgde een comeback van Roxette. Ondanks het herstel bleef Marie sukkelen met haar gezondheid en in 2016 stopte ze op doktersadvies met optreden. In de ochtend van 9 december 2019 overleed zij op 61-jarige leeftijd.
