Van Robyn Rihanna Fenty verschijnt in 2005 het debuutalbum Music Of The Sun, waarvan Pon De Replay en If It’s Lovin’ That You Want haar eerste hits in de Top 40 worden. Nog geen jaar later is met A Girl Like Me haar tweede album een feit. S.O.S. en Unfaithful worden top 4-noteringen.

Op het album Good Girl Gone Bad staat de eerste nummer 1-hit van de zangeres, Don’t Stop The Music. Eind 2012 verschijnt haar zevende album, Unapologetic, waarvan Diamonds de eerste single was. Met een totaal van 26 weken werd het de langst genoteerde Rihanna-single in de Top 40.

Eind 2013 werkt ze (voor de tweede keer) mee aan een single van Eminem. Na Love The Way You Lie (2010) wordt ook The Monster een hit.

In 2015 maakt ze, samen met Kanye West en Paul McCartney de akoestische track FourFiveSeconds. Het wordt haar 26e Alarmschijf, waarmee ze het record overneemt van Madonna. In februari bereikt Rihanna een mijlpaal in de Top 40 als ze met FourFiveSeconds haar totaal aantal weken in de lijst over de 500 brengt. Daarmee is ze de tweede artiest in de 50-jarige geschiedenis die zo lang in de Top 40 staat. Op dat moment is Madonna met 540 weken de langstgenoteerde artiest.
Rihanna is dat jaar ook de stem van Tip in de animatiefilm Home. Ook werkt ze mee aan de soundtrack, waarvan Towards The Sun als voorloper verschijnt.

In januari 2016 verschijnt ANTI, het achtste studioalbum van Rihanna. Eerdere single als Bitch Better Have My Money en American Oxygen staan daar niet op. Kort voor de release van het album wordt Work, opnieuw een samenwerking met Drake, uitgebracht als eerste officiële single. Het wordt haar 37e Top 40-hit. Eind maart verschijnt er van Kiss It Better een videoclip waarin Rihanna zich bijna volledig bloot geeft. In april verschijnt er opnieuw een samenwerking met Calvin Harris op This IS What You Came For, dat haar 27e Alarmschijf wordt. Ook werkt ze opnieuw samen met Drake aan Too Good, één van de nummers op zijn album Views. Van haar album ANTI wordt Love On The Brain de volgende single.

Op 28 mei 2016 wordt Rihanna de meest succesvolle artiest in de geschiedenis van de Top 40 als ze Madonna overtreft qua puntenscore. Twee weken later komt haar aantal weken in de top 10 op 203, waarmee ze recordhouder Marco Borsato evenaart. In juni van 2017 komen we Rihanna tegen op Wild Thoughts, een track van DJ Khaled. Bijna drie jaar later duikt haar naam weer op via Believe It, een track van Partynextdoor.
Eind oktober 2022, na een stilte van van vijf jaar, komt Rihanna met nieuw werk. De single Lift Me Up is de soundtrack van de komende Marvel-film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
