'Disco Duck' is geïnspireerd op een noveltydancenummer uit 1960, getiteld "The Duck". Het nummer werd vertolkt door Jackie Lee in 1965. Volgens Rick Dees was het nummer in een dag geschreven en kostte het niettemin drie maanden om iedereen te overtuigen om het uit te voeren en uiteindelijk uit te brengen. Een misvatting over 'Disco Duck' is dat de stem van de eend werd verleend door Clarence Nash, de originele stem van Donald Duck in veel Walt Disneytekenfilms. De stem van de eend was van Ken Pruitt, een bekende van Rick Dees. 'Disco Duck' werd gebruikt in de film "Saturday Night Fever", in een scène waarin een groep senioren leren discodansen.
