Achter Purple Disco Machine gaat de Duitse producer Tino Piontek schuil. Voordat Piontek in 2009 samen met een vriend onder de naam Purple Disco Machine ging werken, had hij een baan in een platenwinkel en draaide hij in een discotheek in zijn thuisstad Dresden. Later werd Purple Disco Machine een soloproject van Tino.

Purple Disco Machine oogstte in 2013 zijn eerste succes met de single My House, die de eerste plaats haalde in de Beatport Deep House Chart. Nadien bracht hij nog verschillende singles uit en maakte hij remixen voor grote namen als Gorillaz, Jamiroquai, Faithless en Sigma. In 2017 verscheen Purple Disco Machines eerste album Soulmatic. Een jaar later stond hij voor het eerst in de Tipparade met Dished (Male Stripper).

In 2020 maakt hij met Sophie And The Giants de track Hypnotized. Begin 2021 komt hij met de single Fireworks wat een samenwerking is met The Knocks en Moss Kena. Ruim een half jaar later slaat hij de handen ineen met onze Nederlandse Eyelar. Samen lanceren ze de track Dopamine. Tegen het einde van 2021 dropt hij samen met de Britse zangeres Tasita d’Mour de track Rise.
Halverwege januari 2022 gaat hij opnieuw de samenwerking aan met Sophie And The Giants en droppen ze de single In The Dark. Eind maart 2023 weet hij in Kungs te strikken voor de single Substitution.
