Pharrell Williams (Skateboard P) raakt bekend als hij samen met Chad Hugo het producersduo The Neptunes vormt. Het tweetal prduceert succesvol voor onder meer Jay-Z, Nelly en ook Justin Timberlake.
Eigen producties komen er ook als ze, samen met Shay Haley, de groep N*E*R*D vormen.
In 2002 scoort Pharrell, samen met Britney Spears, zijn eerste hit onder eigen naam in de Top 40 als Boys de veertiende plaats van de lijst bereikt. In 2010 scoort hij, samen met de Swedish House Mafia, met One (Your Name) zijn eerste nummer 1-hit.
In 2013 werkt hij, samen met rapper T.I., mee aan Blurred Lines van Robin Thicke. De single zou 11 weken op nummer 1 staan en uitgroeien tot de meest succesvolle hit van het jaar.
Happy, afkomstig van de soundtrack van de film Despicable Me 2, bereikt eveneens de eerste plaats van de Top 40. De single overtreft het succes van Blurred Lines en is de 9e single in de historie van de hitlijst die meer dan 1000 punten weet te scoren.
In maart van 2014 verschijnt zijn album G I R L, waarvan Marilyn Monroe en Come Get It Bae beide Alarmschijf worden.
In april van 2014 wordt Happy -als het 35 weken in de Media Markt Top 40 staat- de grootste hit die ooit in de lijst heeft gestaan. Ook in de weken daarna blijkt de single over een lange adem te beschikken. Eind mei overtreft Happy (met een totaal van 42 weken) het aantal weken dat Huilen Is Voor Jou Te Laat (van Corry & De Rekels) in de Top 40 heeft gestaan. Na 43 jaar wordt Pharrell Williams daarmee ook recordhouder van de langstgenoteerde Top 40-hit. In 2015 maakt Pharrell voor de lancering van de nieuwe streamingdienst van Apple het nummer Freedom dat begin juli wordt uitgeroepen tot Alarmschijf.
In 2016 werkt Pharrell samen met verschillende artiesten, waaronder Justin Timberlake en Charlie Puth. Zelf levert hij met Runnin' een bijdrage voor de soundtrack bij de film Hidden Figures.
In 2017 werkt Pharrell, samen met Ariana Grande en Young Thug, mee aan Heatstroke van Calvin Harris. Ook op de volgende single van Harris, Feels, is een rol weggelegd voor Williams.
