De Britse boyband rond Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles en Louis Tomlinson ontstaat in 2010. Het vijftal doet mee aan de Britse tv-talentenjacht ‘X-Factor’, waarin ze derde worden.

What Makes You Beautiful is hun eerste single en bereikt in het Verenigd Koninkrijk de eerste plaats, maar doet in Nederland nauwelijks iets. De opvolger, One Thing, bereikt wel de tipparade.

Eind 2012 is de mania rond OneDirection ook naar ons land overgeslagen. Live While We’re Young (#22) is de eerste hit voor de groep. Daarna volgen de singles en hits elkaar in een rap tempo op en groeit One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks) in 2013 uit tot hun grootste succes in ons land (#8).

Story Of My Life is eind 2013 de vijfde hit van de heren. Het nummer is de voorloper van het derde album, Midnight Memories, dat in november verschijnt. De titelsong van dat album en You & I blijven steken in de Tipparade.

Op 17 november 2014 brengt One Direction hun vierde album, Four, uit. Steal My Girl verschijnt als voorloper van dat album.

Drag Me Down is de eerste single die de heren in de zomer van 2015 uitbrengen als Zayn Malik de groep heeft verlaten. Het nummer is de eerste track ooit die binnen 24 uur tijd de wereldwijde hitlijst van Spotify aan weet te voeren. Het vijfde album van One Direction, Made In The A.M., verschijnt op 13 november. Nadat de albumtrack Infinity wordt vrijgegeven verschijnt Perfect als officiële tweede single van het album. In februari 2016 is History de laatste track die verschijnt voordat de heren een jaar pauze nemen.
