Omar Samuel Pasley werd ontdekt door Clifton Dillon, die al eerder successen boekte met Shabba Ranks. In 2012 maakt OMI het nummer Cheerleader. Het nummer wordt in 2014 onder handen genomen door de Duitse dj en producer Felix Jaehn, waarna het op de eerste plaats terecht komt in Denemarken en Zweden.

In Nederland komt Cheerleader in de Felix Jaehn Remix halverwege januari binnen in de Top 40. Een week later staat het op nummer 1. Omi is na twaalf jaar de opvolger van Sean Paul, die de laatste Jamaicaan was met een nummer 1-hit. Halverwege maart overtreft hij Shaggy die met zowel Angel als It Wasn't Me 7 weken op nummer 1 stond. Cheerleader houdt het elf weken vol en groeit uit tot één van de grote hits van 2015.
In oktober verschijnt het debuutalbum van de zanger, Me 4 U, waarvan Hula Hoop de volgende single wordt voor de zanger.
