Oliver Stanley Murs is in 2007 voor het eerst te zien op de Britse televisie. Dat doet hij dan niet als zanger maar als deelnemer aan het programma Deal Or No Deal, waar hij uiteindelijk 10 Britse Ponden wint. In 2009 wordt Olly Murs tweede bij de Britse talentenjacht The X-Factor, waar hij in Joe McElderry zijn meerdere moet erkennen. Hij neemt een jaar de tijd om te werken aan nieuwe nummers, uiteindelijk te horen op zijn titelloze debuutalbum, waarvan Please Don’t Let Me Go zijn eerste single is. Nog geen jaar later is ook het album In Case You Didn’t Know een feit. Daarvan wordt My Heart Skips A Beat de bekendste track. In 2013 staan Troublemaker (met Flo-Rida) en Dear Darlin’ in de Tipparade. Beide nummers zijn afkomstig van het derde Murs-album Right Place Right Time.

Op 21 november 2014 verschijnt het album Never Been Better, waarvan Wrapped Up (met Travie McCoy) en Up (met Demi Lovato) als singles verschijnen.

In de zomer van 2016 maakt Olly Murs bekend dat You Don't Know Love verschijnt als voorloper van zijn zesde studioalbum. Een jaar later levert hij met Kungs en Coely de track More Mess af.
