Olivia Rodrigo is geboren als dochter van een Duits/Ierse moeder en een Filipijnse vader. Sinds 2016 is Olivia te zien op Disney Channel waar ze de rol van Paige Olvera speelt in de serie Bizaardvark. Daarna volgde een rol in de serie High School Musical – The Musical. Uit die serie wordt het nummer All I Want als single uitgebracht met een bescheiden hit in de Billboard-lijst als resultaat.
In 2020 tekent ze een platencontract bij Geffen Records waar op 8 januari 2021 haar debuutsingle Drivers License verschijnt. Met die track komt ze van niets op 1 in de Top 40. Dat maakt haar de 16e artiest ooit die de Top 40-loopbaan begint met een binnenkomst op de eerste plek. In maart 2021 komt ze met de opvolger Déjà Vu. Op 21 mei 2021 verschijnt haar debuutalbum Sour. Ze brengt vlak daarvoor nog de track Good 4 U uit. In augustus brengt ze officieel de single Traitor uit. Nog voordat het als single werd gepromoot, werd Traitor al een favoriet bij fans en behaalde het commercieel succes als albumtrack.
