Melissa Lou Etheridge (geboren in Leavenworth in Kansas, VS) is een rockzangeres die in Nederland vooral bekend is dankzij haar top 3-hit Like The Way I Do (de live-uitvoering uit 1993). De gewone uitvoering was in 1989 ook al een hit in ons land.

Ze is ook bekend als homorechtenactiviste. Tijdens de inauguratie van Bill Clinton in 1993 maakte ze bekend dat ze zelf lesbienne is.

In 2007 kreeg Etheridge een Oscar voor I Need To Wake Up, dat gebruikt werd in de film An Inconvenient Truth van Al Gore. Het werd in Nederland geen hit. In 2011 mocht ze haar eigen ster onthullen op de beroemde Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles.
