Marvin Lee Aday alias Meat Loaf was een Amerikaanse rockzanger en acteur. Over de totstandkoming van zijn artiestennaam bestaan verschillende versies. Er is de versie waarin hij aangeeft dat het een idee van zijn vader was en een andere versie is te lezen in de biografie (To Hell And Back) dat hij deze naam dankt aan zijn honkbaltrainer. In 1984 veranderde hij zijn voornaam Marvin in Michael.

In 1975 was hij te zien in The Rocky Horror Picture Show in de rol van Eddie.

Twee jaar later bracht hij het album Bat Out Of Hell uit. Hij werkte vanaf 1972 samen met componist en tekstschrijver Jim Steinman aan dit album. Op dit album staat zijn grootste hit Paradise By The Dashboard Light. Het album ging meer dan 43 miljoen keer over de toonbank. Hierdoor is het een van de best verkopende albums ooit.

Hij was in 1992 te zien als Hoover in film Leap Of Faith. Hij speelde daarin de muzikaal leider van een rondtrekkende kerk. Leuk detail: wanneer hij de autoradio aanzet, komt Paradise By The Dashboard Light uit de luidsprekers. In 1997 was hij te zien als buschauffeur Dennis in de film Spice World.

In 1993 scoort hij een wereldhit met het nummer I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) van het album Bat Out Of Hell II: Back Into Hell. Hij sleepte er in 1994 de Grammy Award voor Best Rock Vocal Performance, Solo mee in de wacht.

Zijn volgende rol op het witte doek was die van Robert Paulson in Fight Club uit 1999. In 2006 bracht hij het derde deel uit van Bat Out Of Hell, getiteld The Monster Is Loose.

In april 2013 stopte Meat Loaf met toeren, omdat hij zich meer wilde focussen op zijn acteercarrière. Zijn dertiende en zijn laatste album genaamd Braver Than We Are verscheen in 2016.

Hij overleed op 20 januari 2022.
