Echte naam: Stanly Kirk Burrell. Brengt zijn eerste rapalbum uit in 1987. Het grote succes komt in 1989 met het album Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em, waar de monsterhit U Can't Touch This op staat. De single geldt nog steeds als één van de meest verkochte rapnummers wereldwijd ooit.

In Nederland scoort Hammer (MC schrapt hij op een gegeven moment uit zijn naam) 7 hits, de laatste in het voorjaar van 1992. Daarna brengt hij nog wel muziek uit en tekent hij in 1996 bij Death Row Records (2Pac), maar dat levert geen nieuwe successen op.

In 1997 wordt Hammer, mede door zijn jetsetstijl van leven, failliet verklaard. In 2011 haalt hij het nieuws als hij een nieuwe internetzoekmachine aankondigt, maar die flopt.
