Måns Zelmerlöw neemt in 2005 deel aan de Zweedse Idols, waar hij als vijfde eindigt. Twee jaar later staat hij op het nationale songfestival van Zweden, waar hij uiteindelijk als derde eindigd met het nummer Cara Mia. Een nieuwe poging in 2009 om zich te kwalificeren voor het Eurovisiesongfestival met Hope & Glory mislukt opnieuw als hij vierde wordt.

Inmiddels heeft Zelmerlöw succes in zijn thuisland. Zijn debuutalbum Stand By For… wordt platina en ook de opvolger MZW is goed voor een gouden status in verkopen.

In 2015 heeft hij wel succes en wordt hij uitgezonden naar het Eurovisiesongfestival met Heroes. De combinatie van het nummer met een animatie valt duidelijk in de smaak van zowel de jury als ook het publiek, waardoor hij het festival wint. Heroes staat op het vierde album van de Zweedse zanger, Perfectly Damaged. Daarvan is in augustus Should've Been Gone de volgende single.
