Met dit lied werd 'scratchen' in de Nederlandse hitlijsten geïntroduceerd. In de video is duidelijk de Rock Steady Crew te herkennen, bekend van de nummer 1-hit "(Hey You) The Rock Steady Crew".
McLaren kwam op het idee voor dit lied toen hij in New York City op zoek was naar een supportact voor Bow Wow Wow en daar voor de eerste keer hiphopmuziek hoorde en de scratchtechniek ontdekte.
World's Famous Supreme Team is een groep dj's uit New York City die platenspelers als instrument gebruiken, waarbij de naald van de grammofoon als vervanger voor een powerakkoord op de gitaar geldt door een plaat handmatig onder de naald heen en terug te draaien, het zogenaamde 'scratchen'.
De versregel "Two buffalo gals go 'round the outside" werd door Eminem gebruikt op zijn single "Without Me" uit 2002, waarbij de tekst werd gewijzigd naar "Two trailer park girls go 'round the outside".
Niet alleen in de nummer 1-hit "Buffalo Stance" uit 1989 van Neneh Cherry (losjes gebaseerd op "Buffalo Gals", wat ook uit de titel blijkt en waar eveneens stevig wordt gescratcht), ook in de top 10-hit "I Wish" van Skee-Lo wordt "Buffalo Gals" gesampeld.
Elementen uit de opname van Malcolm McLaren zijn tevens gesampeld in "Powerless (Say What You Want)" van Nelly Furtado (door een banjo te mixen met breakbeats uit "Buffalo Gals").
