Leen Huijzer begint zijn muzikale loopbaan als Len Hauser & The Drifting Five. In 1975 komt de loopbaan van de geboren Ridderkerker in een stroomversnelling als hij te zien is op tv bij Willem Duys, die hem introduceert als zingende kraanmachinist uit Rotterdam. It’s Raining In My Heart is in 1976 zijn eerste single als Lee Towers en wordt gecomponeerd door Wally Tax. De single bereikt de 24e plaats. De opvolger, You Never Walk Alone, verschijnt later dat jaar en bereikt de vijfde positie. Het nummer zou uiteindelijk zijn grootste Top 40-hit blijven. Het nummer groeit uit tot hét clublied van voetbalvereniging Feyenoord.

In 1984 weet de zanger,die zich steevast met een gouden microfoon op het podium vertoont, de Rotterdamse Ahoy’ tot twee keer toe uit te verkopen, wat hij in de jaren daarna nog vaker doet. Later scoort Towers met I Can See Clearly Now en Run To Me (samen met Anita Meyer) nog twee top 10-hits.

Aan het einde van 2014 werkt Towers, met een keur aan Nederlandse artiesten, mee aan het nummer Kerstmis Vier Je Samen van EenMaal Voor Allen. Het project, waaraan supermarktketen Jumbo zich heeft verbonden, haalt in de donkere dagen geld op voor het goede doel.
