Ari Staprans Leff, geboren en getogen in San Francisco, studeerde muziektechniek en tekende een contract bij Prescription Songs. Lauv noemt Paul Simon als één van zijn inspiratiebronnen bij het schrijven van nummers. In 2015 verschijnt zijn eerste ep, Lost In The Light, Na zijn eigen singles Question, Breathe en The Other weet hij in 2017 ook het grote publiek te bereiken met I Like Me Better. Op dat moment heeft hij ook succes met No Promises (van Cheat Codes en Demi Lovato) waar hij aan meeschreef en produceerde. In september leent hij zijn vocalen aan A Different Way, de nieuwe single van DJ Snake.
In 2019 maakt hij I'm So Tired (met Troye Sivan) en Fuck, I'm Lonely (met Anne-Marie). De daaropvolgende singles weten in Nederland nauwelijks op te vallen. Anders is dat in september 2020 als hij met Jawsh 685 en Tyga te horen is op Sweet & Sour. Met YouTube-ster Conan Gray maakt hij een maand later de track Fake.
