In 2009 debuteert Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta met twee opeenvolgende nummer-1-hits. Zowel Just Dance als Pokerface zijn daarmee de meest succesvolle singles van het debuutalbum The Fame.

Van de zangeres, die haar artiestennaam heeft ontleend aan Radio Ga Ga van Queen, verschijnt in 2011 haar tweede album, Born This Way, waarvan de titeltrack haar derde nummer-1-hit wordt in de Top 40.

Van haar derde album Artpop wordt Applause in 2013 een hit. De opvolger, Do What U Want (samen met R-Kelly) is in december van dat jaar haar dertiende hit. Na een duetalbum met Tony Bennett en het ingetogen Till It Happens To You keert Lady GaGa in het najaar van 2016 weer terug naar haar eerdere sound met de single Perfect Illusion. Lady Gaga vervangt in april 2017 de zwangere Beyoncé tijdens het Coachella-festival. Na haar optreden verrast ze met een nieuwe track, The Cure.

In 2018 schrijft ze met Bradley Cooper aan de soundtrack van de film A Star Is Born. Van dat album, dat zowel in Amerika als het Verenigd Koninkrijk de eerste plaats bereikt, groeit Shallow uit tot één van de populaire nummers. Ze wint in 2019 een Golden Globe voor dat nummer en sleept ook een Oscar-nominatie binnen. Ondertussen blijkt ook Always Remember Us This Way veel los te maken bij de film. Qmusic roept dat nummer eind januari 2019 uit tot Alarmschijf.

Dik een jaar later verschijnt Stupid Love als voorloper van haar zesde album. De track lekte een maand voor de originele release al uit. Ook brengt ze Rain On Me vooruitlopend op de release van het album Chromatica. Op die track is ook Ariana Grande te horen.
Begin mei 2022 brengt ze de single Hold My Hand uit. Het nummer is afkomstig van de soundtrack van de film Top Gun: Maverick. Dankzij de Netflix serie Wednesday krijg haar nummer Bloody Mary een enorme boost. Het wordt zo populair dat ze, elf jaar na het verschijnen van haar tweede album Born This Way waar dit nummer op staat, besluit om het nummer als single uit te brengen in december 2022.
