Kelly Clarkson levert, als ze in 2002 de Amerikaanse Idols wint, haar debuutalbum Thankful af. Ondertussen schreef de zangeres met Moment Like You al een nummer-1-hit in de Billboard Hot 100 op haar naam geschreven. In ons land debuteert ze met de alarmschijf Miss Independent, een nummer dat ze samen met Christina Aguilera had geschreven. De single bereikt de 9e plaats in de lijst.

Haar tweede album, Breakaway, verschijnt in 2005. Het album levert haar vier opeenvolgende top-10-hits in de Top 40, waarbij Because Of You haar eerste nummer-1-hit is. Van de daaropvolgende albums My December en All I Ever Wanted komen opnieuw drie singles in de Top 40.

Na een afwezigheid van vier jaar keert de zangeres in 2013 weer terug in de Top 40. De single Underneath The Tree is afkomstig van haar zesde studioalbum, Wrapped In Red, waarop alleen kerstnummers staan. Met een totaal van 10 hits scoorde de zangeres 9 keer de Alarmschijf.

Begin 2014 laat de zangeres weten te werken aan haar zevende studioalbum, Piece By Piece, dat in 2015 verschijnt. Van dat album is Heartbeat Song een track die in de Tipparade terecht weet te komen. In het najaar van 2015 verschijnt Second Hand Heart, een duet dat ze opneemt met de winnaar van de Britse X Factor, Ben Haenow.

Tijdens American Idol zingt ze in 2016 het nummer Piece By Piece terwijl de tranen over haar wangen biggelen. Het nummer weet zoveel indruk te wekken dat ze volop in de belangstelling komt te staan. De Idol-versie wordt een dag later uitgebracht.
