John Newman komen we voor het eerst tegen met zijn vocale bijdragen aan Feel The Love van Rudimental. De single betekent zijn eerste hit in Nederland met een top 2-notering als resultaat. Er komt met Not Giving In een vervolg aan de samenwerking, maar de single blijft steken in de tipparde.
Eind 2013 verschijnt zijn debuutalbum, Cheating, waarvan Love Me Again zijn eerste solo-notering wordt. Losing Sleep verschijnt als opvolger in de tipparade. Een slordig jaar later scoort de zanger samen met Calvin Harris de Alarmschijf en komt Blame op de eerste plaats van de Britse hitlijst.
Come And Get It verschijnt aan het begin van de zomer van 2015 en wordt door Radio 538 uitgeroepen tot Alarmschijf. In het voorjaar van 2016 leent hij zijn stem aan Sigala's single Give Me Your Love.
