Als tiener luistert Elena Apostoleanu naar artiesten als Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera en Whitney Houston. Tijdens haar studie politiek besluit ze zanglessen te nemen. Tijdens een kantoorbaantje besloot haar toenmalige baas haar in te schrijven voor een zangwedstrijd. Uiteindelijk diende ‘Alessandra’ zelfs twee nummers in bij de voorselectie van Roemenië voor het Eurovisiesongfestival, maar dat leverde geen resultaat. Later dat jaar verandert ze haar naam in Inna omdat het makkelijker te onthouden was. In de zomer van 2008 verschijnt haar eerste single, Hot, dat een jaar later in de Top 40 de tweede plaats weet te bereiken. Daarna kwamen ook Deja Vu, Love, Amazing, 10 Minutes en Sun Is Up in een rap tempo in de lijst terecht. Sinds 16 juli 2011 deed Inna nog verschillende pogingen een nieuwe hit te scoren, maar nummers als Club Rocker, Un Momento, Wow en More Than Friends bleven steken in de Tipparade.

In 2017 maakt ze met Sam Feldt en Lush & Simon de track Fade Away. De jaren die volgde bracht ze muziek uit dat vooral hits werde in haar thuisland. In 2021 scoort ze samen met Sean Paul een hit met het nummer Up, maar het nummer weet Nederland niet te veroveren. In april 2023 verscheen haar negende album genaamd Just Dance. In diezelfde maand neemt zij samen met R3hab de single Ecuador van Sash! onder handen, wat de single Rock My Body oplevert.
