Roek Williams and The Fighting Cats toerden indertijd door Noord-Holland, de bandleden kwamen voor een optreden dan tezamen in een kroegje bij het Amstelstation en dan reden ze samen Noord-Holland in (en dan hoopten ze dat The Cats nergens in de buurt speelden, want dan was de zaal leeg bij Roek Williams). In het kroegje zaten volgens zeggen altijd twee drinkebroers het duet uit De Parelvissers te zingen, zo 's middags om een uur of vijf, en dan ging de hele kroeg meezingen en -lallen. Toen dacht Will Luikinga dat dat lied misschien wel een leuk liedje zou zijn om op te nemen - want reli-pop was toen heel erg in (men denke aan (Unit) Gloria) - over de zondvloed, The Flood, en dat werd de eerste single van Ginger Ale.
De tweede stem in het lied wordt gezongen door Hans van Hemert. Zanger Coen Merkelbach slaagde er niet in de tweede stem te zingen. Men besloot Hans van Hemert te bellen, die in de nabijheid van de Soundpushstudio woonde, en "300 gulden later stond die tweede stem erop", aldus Will Luikinga.
