Het lied is het liefdeslied van een oom voor zijn jonge nichtje. Echter het eerste deel van het lied zou ook kunnen wijzen op de liefde van een volwassene voor een andere volwassene. De korte instrumentale inleiding is het geluid dat Gilbert O'Sullivan al fluitend maakt, voordat het lied echt start. De echte Clair was dochter van O'Sullivans producer-manager Gordon Mills en zijn vrouw, het model Jo Waring. Het kleine meisje hoor je giechelend op het einde van het nummer. De "oom Ray" die in het nummer genoemd wordt, is Gilbert O'Sullivan zelf, het is een verwijzing naar zijn echte naam Raymond O'Sullivan. Het nummer op de B-kant is afkomstig uit de film "For the Love of Ada".
