Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn krijgt zijn bijnaam Future als hij lid is van The Dungeon Family. Vanaf 2010 brengt hij verschillende mixtapes uit en in 2011 maakt hij samen met Gucci Mane het album Free Bricks. Ondertussen werkt hij aan zijn debuutalbum Pluto dat in april van 2012 verschijnt met daarop samenwerkingen met onder meer Drake, Juicy J, T.I. en R. Kelly. Ook werkt hij als schrijver, producer en uitvoerend artiest mee aan Loveeeeeee Song op Unapologetic van Rihanna. In oktober 2013 vraagt hij Ciara ten huwelijk, maar die verloving komt in 2014 ten einde.
In het voorjaar van 2014 levert hij met Honest zijn tweede album af. Op het album zijn onder meer André 3000, Drake, Kanye West, Pharrell en Wiz Khalifa terug te horen. Daarna verschijnen ook de albums DS2 (2015) en EVOL (2016). Op dat album staat opvallend genoeg slechts één samenwerking: Low Life met The Weeknd. Die track groeit in de Verenigde Staten uit tot zijn grootste succes.
Future maakt veelvuldig gebruik van auto-tune waarmee hij zijn stem optimaliseert op zijn tracks. In 2017 is hij terug te vinden op Cold, de single van Maroon 5 die in februari verschijnt. Ook van zijn album Future wordt Mask Off populair.
Op 12 januari 2018 verschijnt de videoclip bij End Game, de track van Taylor Swift waarop hij en Ed Sheeran mee hebben gewerkt.
