Al op 8-jarige leeftijd begint Tramar Dillard met rappen. Hij breekt door met het nummer Low, dat afkomstig is uit de film Step Up 2: The Streets in 2008. Het nummer is zijn eerste single en komt op zijn debuutalbum Mail On Sunday. In Canada, Ierland, Australië, Nieuw-Zeeland en de Verenigde Staten wordt het een nummer 1-hit, maar succes in Nederland bleef uit.

In 2009 scoort Flo Rida samen met Ke$ha zijn eerste hit met Right Round. De Amerikaan grossiert in samenwerkingen, waaronder die met Sia, Taio Cruz, Tiësto, Alexandra Burke. Met David Guetta scoort hij twee hits: Where Them Girls At (2011) en zijn grootste succes in ons land, Club Can’t Handle Me (2010). In 2013 is Let It Roll [Part 2] zijn tiende hit in ons land.

In januari 2015 komt G.D.F.R., de afkorting van Going Down For Real, in de Top 40. Het is de eerste track van zijn vijfde studioalbum, The Perfect 10, waarop hij samenwerkt met Sage The Gemini. Lookas produceerde de track. Het nummer krijgt een plek op de EP My House, die in het voorjaar verschijnt. Daarop staat ook zijn samenwerking met Robin Thicke en Verdine White, I Don't Like It, I Love It. Begin 2016 oogst ook de titeltrack van die EP succes.

In 2017 is Cake terug te vinden op de verzamelaar This Is A Challenge. Die track van Flo Rida wordt zijn volgende single.
