De groepsnaam is ontleend aan de naam van de boosaardige wetenschapper Durand Durand in de cultfilm Barbarella uit 1968 (met in de hoofdrol Jane Fonda en als regisseur haar toenmalige echtgenoot Roger Vadim), waarin een astronaut uit de 41e eeuw, Barbarella (Jane Fonda), naar de aarde wordt gestuurd om doctor Durand Durand (Milo O'Shea) een halt toe te roepen.
