Het nummer begint en eindigt met een gesproken inleiding waarin verteld wordt dat hij eens gelukkig was. Echter, zijn meisje verliet hem, nu maakt hij maar wandelingen naar de bioscoop of naar het park, en probeert zijn ellende te verbergen door het vertellen van moppen aan kinderen die hem kennen. Hoe hard hij ook probeert zijn ellende te vergeten door te geloven dat ze terugkomt, gebeurt dit niet. Tegen het einde van het lied, als een andere dag aan zijn einde komt, hoopt hij een brief van haar te krijgen. Hij eindigt zijn verhaal door te denken dat hij het meisje weer had aangeraakt.
