De Haarlemse band Chef’ Special ontstaat in 2008 als vriendengroep. In 2009 verschijnt hun eerste EP, Hungry. Er verschijnen daarna een aantal singles en in 2011 wordt de groep uitgeroepen tot 3FM Serious Talent.

De benoeming valt samen met de release van het debuutalbum One For The Mrs. en ook speelt Chef’ Special iedere vrijdag in het tv-programma De Wereld Draait Door. De single Birds staat in het najaar van 2011 genoteerd in de tipparade.

Peculiar verschijnt als single en voorloper van het tweede album, Passing Through, dat in februari 2014 verschijnt. In Your Arms wordt de eerste hit van de heren in de Top 40. De single staat 28 weken in de lijst, maar komt niet verder dan de 20e plaats. Het nummer wordt in september onderscheiden met dubbel platina. Vrij snel daarna verschijnt de nieuwe single, On Shoulders, die in de Tipparade blijft steken.

In 2015 is Still Don't Know de volgende single van het album Passing Through. Het nummer is ook terug te vinden in de Nederlandse film Homies maar blijft steken in de Tipparade.

Vóór de release van hun album Amígo, in maart 2017, worden de titeltrack én Try Again uitgebracht als single. Try Again wordt hun tweede Top 40-hit en terwijl de track nog in de lijst staat verschijnt de opvolger van dat nummer, Because I Love You. In februari 2018 wordt de band voor het album Amígo met een Edison onderscheiden. Ook wordt Nicotine de nieuwe single en niet veel later de eerste Alarmschijf van de groep.

Aan het einde van 2019 kondigt de groep een nieuwe clubtour aan die binnen 48 uur is uitverkocht. Direct met de start van 2020 verschijnt er met Trouble weer een nieuwe single van de band. Op 6 maart wordt Unfold uitgebracht, het zesde album van de band. Gitarist Guido Joseph nam voor het eerst de productie van een album voor zijn rekening en dat resulteerde in een nieuw geluid dat dicht bij de sound ligt die normaal ook op het podium te horen is. Maybe This Is Love en Kaleidoschope worden de volgende singles.
In maart 2021 komen ze met de single Afraid Of The Dark.
