In 2008 verhuist Rupert Blackman van Londen naar Nederland. Na een tijd actief geweest te zijn als straatmuzikant brengt hij in 2013 het album The Light Of Home uit. Ondertussen is hij ook actief als tekstschrijver voor onder meer Alain Clark, Bløf en Mainstreet en internationaal werkt hij met schrijvers die werken voor Ronan Keating, The Prodigy, P!nk en Justin Timberlake. Eind 2013 formeert hij de band Causes,

De eerste single, Teach Me How To Dance With You, wordt Alarmschijf en is in februari 2015 hun debuut in de Top 40. Later wordt de single onderscheiden met platina.

Blackman is in 2015 ook te horen op Limitless van The Flying Dutch. Dat is het thema van het festival dat op 30 mei 2015 plaats vindt in Eindhoven (Strijp-S en in drie dagen uitverkocht), Rotterdam (Ahoy) en Amsterdam (Olympisch Station). Op alle locaties zijn shows van Afrojack, Armin van Buuren, Hardwell, Fedde Le Grand, Nicky Romero, Oliver Heldens, Showtek, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, W&W en Yellow Claw.

In 2015 brengt Causes de singles Walk On Water en To The River uit. Begin 2016 verschijnt hun debuutalbum Under Bridges That You Built for Me met daarop ook de track All For Us.
